It all began in 2023, when a small group of motivated interpreting students wished to continue practising over the Summer break. Countless interpreting practice sessions have taken place since then. Months and even years passed by, demanding university schedules led to bouts of inactivity, and the team and member base grew.
With nearly all of the original members graduating and now taking their tentative first steps in the professional interpreting world, what should become of this student-led project? Was there an expiry date to the Booth Club?
Far from it! Graduation is just the very beginning. Improving one’s interpreting chops is a lifelong endeavour and particularly crucial for recent graduates. Having the opportunity to practise with others, receiving feedback on one’s performance, and interpreting a wide variety of speeches and topics never gets old.
Beyond being a way to organise practice sessions, the Booth Club is also a community of like-minded people: inquisitive, driven, and passionate about language, interpreting, communication and more. We hail from all over Europe and collectively speak more than 20 languages.
United both in our desire to make a living from interpreting and our realisation that no one else really understands what we do, we support each other when navigating choppy waters, share good and bad experiences, encourage each other and celebrate our achievements. The Booth Club is an inclusive space and open to all ages, nationalities, and languages.
